TECHNIQUE: Camera Handling

Many of us shooters will carry two or three cameras on our person. This can be a challenge and quite awkward as you bash and smash your way through chairs and smaller spaces. Your lens may even get the opportunity to offend a few skirts.  Here is a tip if you have a long lens. Carry the camera backwards. What I mean is this: you usually strap it over your shoulder with the back of the camera body to your person. The lens will then hang down at a 45 degree angle towards the ground getting into all sorts of snag trouble. If you turn your camera the other way, your lens will hang right up against your hip and leg like a sword. It is an easy grab when you need to shoot, but will take some getting used to and will save you from having to scold your lens after the party for all it’s unruly behaviors.
