WORKFLOW: Computers

What should you buy? Mac or PC? Desktop or Workstation? Flat out answer: buy the best computer you can afford using the platform you know. Both LightRoom and PhotoShop are the same on both Mac and PC. I use both platforms: I have a Dell workstation (not something you can buy at a local computer store like Best Buy) and a Mac. The workstation is a faster computing tower that can hold up to the numerous aps I use, however I mainly use it for billing and accounting as well as to check how my website reacts in both platforms. (Note: Mac does not have a great finance program and PC is still better for this. If you want to buy Quick Books Pro for Mac, buyer beware: glitchy.) The Mac is what I use to edit my photos. You main concern when buying a computer is the monitor. If you can spend less on the computer and more on the monitor you will be better off. PC monitors are not as great as the Mac monitors when it comes to high resolution image editing and color balancing. I am not going to give specifics here on which actual computer to buy, but if you are just starting out and don’t care which platform to buy, I would say you should look into the Apple iMac 24inch computer. Great bang for your buck and you are assured a good monitor for enhancing your imagery.
