Getting the word out on an event is key to having a successful event. No guests = no fun. Many people have gone “green” by going paperless using online invitation companies such as e-vite and facebook. E-vite is good but I was never a big fan of the style of the invitations. Facebook can work if you personally invite people rather than bulk invite. Here is something new: Paperless Post. It is classic and clean. The designs are wonderful and the way it works makes it fun to send and receive.
Why, as a photographer would you need to send an invitation? To market your services you should start to think outside the box. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
1. Throw a “Mommy and Me Photo Party” Invite all the moms you know with little ones to a 2 hour location party. The session is free and you will run around after their kids at a park taking photos while they play, etc. Then you direct them to your online hosting site to sell prints. Fun, easy, profitable.
2. Host an Engagement Shoot-Out. Invite engaged couples to join you at a location with several other photographers and rotate through the couples so they have access to several photographers over a 2 hour period. Each photographer will then sell the prints to the engaged couples. Again, a free sitting for them, with profits through prints for you. (As the host, you can charge the photographers for your coordination, or you can all pitch in for the guest list and work of each others lists for maximum exposure.)
3. Throw a “Family Portrait Day.” Invite families to come to your studio for a free 15 minute sitting. Charge for files and prints. You may do this in the reverse too. Charge a sitting fee and include on 8×10 portrait.
Have fun with it and send an invitation to your next event through Paperless Post. I love it!
