When it comes right down to it, in any industry, it is really who you know. Of course you have to be good at what you do, but more often than not you will get hired based on word of mouth. Who’s mouth it is coming from really makes all the difference in the world. People find photographers through many avenues but the one that will get them to spend their dollar on you is a straight referal from someone they know and trust. In the wedding industry it is usually a friend who recently got married or their coordinator. That is it. I have had a few brides come to me by over hearing someone talking about me at a salon or in a class, but those are rare. So, point being, take care of your people! I have recently hired an administrative assistant to keep me on track with my inner circle of peeps. She is fantastic, from writing personal birthday cards and thank you notes, to keeping my contact lists up to date. She does a heck of a whole lot more, but that is what I need her for. If you are looking for administrative service there are a lot of virtual assistants you can hire, but I have found that working with someone who comes highly recommended works best in this industry!![]()
