How fun! A show at the Americana in Glendale. POP The Bridal Event was a new show this year and Nicole Hirsty of Cobalt Events knocked it out of the park. Beautiful, elegent, simple, and packed with guests. The only way to have a show. I was the featured show photographer for the event and had a blast. See below for a sample of my shots from the show. Charity Bridal Shootout at Robinson Ranch to Benefit LETMESAIL

Today was truly inspiring. The makeup artists were at their finest, the photographers were elated, the venue housed a beautiful day, the horse (yes I said horse) was on his best behavior, and the brides were blessed. Blessed because so many wonderful things were given to them. Free full hair and makeup trials. Free photography. And many walked away with items from our sponsors at a fraction of what it would have normally cost. We raised an additional $870 for the organization LETMESAIL. Awesome! I can’t wait to present them with the check!

Charity Bridal Shootout

Imagine walking down the isle arm in arm with your dad. When he gives you away, you slip him a little note. He watches from the first row as his little girl gets married to the man of her dreams. Mid way through the ceremony he remembers you gave him something. He looks down, opens it, and a tear rolls down his cheek. It is a letter from you along with a beautiful portrait of you in your splendid gown.

Bridal sessions typically cost between $400 and $1,500. Now you can get yours at no cost! Join me at my Charity Bridal Shootout and get photographed in your gown by up to 4 photographers. Flowers and full hair and makeup will be provided.

There will be a silent auction with 100% of our money going to LETMESAIL, an organization in Santa Clarita dedicated to enriching the lives of the disabled through social and educational events. These people are about the same age as most engaged ladies, but lead a very different life. They have movie nights, go on camping trips, get job training, and are extremely happy people however are physically and mentally disabled and need full time care. LETMESAIL helps the entire family of the disabled individual by providing respite for them. My goal is to raise awareness and monies for this cause. The auction will have items ranging from a wedding gown from Cruz’s Bridal, wedding day hair and makeup from Betsy diFrancesca and Dedra Whitt, a Metallic Canvas Surface Artists Print from Jen O’Sullivan, a locally grown, organic, eco friendly Bridal Bouquet and Groom’s Boutonniere from Wisteria Lane Flower Shop, Engagement and Family Portrait Sessions from several of the photographers, plus other wonderful items that you will have access to at a fraction of the actual cost. This is a real opportunity for you to get beautiful photography and save huge on some of your wedding day needs.

CHARITY ENGAGEMENT SHOOTOUT

Get in on this once in a lifetime chance to get some great photography of you and your fiance from multiple wedding photographers! Absolutely Free!

When: Tuesday, May 11th from 2:30-7:30pm (two sessions)
Where: The Sunset Restaurant in Malibu
What: Get photographed at no cost with some extraordinary photographers (up to 5 shooters will work with you for 15 minutes each.)
You Get: All your files from each photographer at no cost! A donation of any size to LETMESAIL will be encouraged. http://www.letmesail.org
The Catch: There is none! You get to test drive some really great shooters BEFORE you hire one with no strings attached.

You wouldn’t do a speed dating event if you were already in a relationship. If you really want to come and already have a shooter for your wedding, please contact me. There are other great things to do like get your makeup done and eat cake. And, you never know, with 50 photographers there is bound to be a few hanging around who would love to photograph you.

I am often asked why I do these shootouts. There are two reasons. One, because I love to teach and I started doing them as workshops for up and coming photographers. Two, because photographers are notoriously competitive with each other, holding their contacts and trade secrets close to their vest. I have decided to flip the whole game on it’s head. I am giving 50 photographers a shot at booking MY leeds all in the name of charity. I work hard for my contacts but also know that ultimately people hire me for me so why not share the love and make some money for a great organization. This is match making at it’s finest! Here is how it works. 50 photographers get to work with up to 6 pre-matched potential clients out of 50 engaged couples. They are matched based on style, budget, and date availability. Couples get the opportunity to test drive 6 shooters AND they get to keep their image files after the shoot with no strings attached. Nobody pays a dime, unless they wish to donate to my charity. Something like this would go for a minimum of $1,500 to work with this many shooters and get your files. My goal: raise as much money for the charity, work with some wonderful people in the industry, and hopefully match up some couple’s to their future wedding photographer. I will be shooting too, so I hope to meet some potential future brides and grooms as well.

NOT Keeping Up with the Joneses (COLLEAGUES)

Part 9 of the 12 part series on balancing your life.

As a business owner, my colleagues are the others in my industry who make my industry what it is. They are the people dedicated to the same things I am only they offer different services and products to help my clients with their perfect event. These people are critical in the continued success of my business so I make a point of taking care of them as much as I can. While many of them become my friends they are also my partners. I connect with people who are most like me. Just like my clients, I work best with people I like and can trust. Reach out to as many as you can and then keep the ones you really like close to you. Send them notes every once in a while, shoot them an email just to say hello. Invite them to lunch or any industry parties you may be attending. Never go to lunch alone. It is a wasted opportunity to get to know someone better.

Now, to make something clear, your assistants, employees, and interns are not your colleagues. They also need some attention so don’t forget about them. Thank them. Be a good person to work for. Remember their birthdays. They help you make the world go around.

I recently hosted the Beverly Hills Chapter Grand Opening of Wedding And Event Specialists. There were so many great people in attendance and it was a huge success.
